Spark Notes and Bob Dylan by Ginger D. (15, F, Beverly Hills)
"I once went on this date with a guy Matthew who had a HUGE crush on me. I wasn't really interested, but I carefully arranged a group date with him, me, and our two mutual friends. Of course, the mutual friends bailed the day of the date which left me stranded. Realizing the situation at hand, Matthew decided that we should go to a local record store where an indie band he was WAY into was playing. We show up at the record store at 3 pm. He tells me after we arrive that he wanted to make sure we had enough time to save spots and have fun shopping around before the band started...at 8 pm. We spend the next FIVE HOURS looking at records and used books. He tells me for hours at a time, about his interests in indie movies, Bob Dylan, and Spark Notes. The band goes on late. I am tired. I am hungry. He has not offered to get me anything to eat. Eventually the band comes on, sucks, and we leave at 9:30, from my six and a half hour date with a creepy guy whose idea of fun was to debate Bob Dylan vs. the Beatles and browse greeting cards. To this day, he references the date as "that great time we had together.""
