My Other Ride Is Your Mom

"I was never the type of girl who liked to be set up for dates, but when my best friend told me that she had found the perfect guy for me, I agreed to meet him for coffee.

When I arrived at the coffee shop, the "perfect guy" was waiting there, wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase, "My other ride is your mom." I was a bit startled, but his shirt wasn't nearly as off-putting as his greeting: "Are you Maura? Wow, I didn't think it was you because I was led to believe that you look like Ashlee Simpson. WAY off!"

In spite of the insult and the d-bag shirt, I went on with the date. My friend had talked him up so much, that I had to see what it was that apparently made him so great for me.

After he left me to pay for my own coffee and muffin, he led me to a table and proceeded to tell me that he had dropped out of high school to pursue a career in professional skateboarding. When that didn't pan out, he took on a string of increasingly degrading jobs to support his "extracurricular activities and s---" (smoking pot). Because of his financial situation, he was still living with his ex-girlfriend, but he assured me that they "only had sex every once in a while ... you know, between better things."

After an hour of this crap, I decided that enough was enough and told him that I had to be going. He offered to walk me to my car, which, in my opinion, was the only nice thing he'd done the whole afternoon.

But, I gave him too much credit. He only did it so he could ask me if he could get high in my car, because he didn't have one at the moment. Needless to say, I refused his request and never spoke to him again. And, I didn't speak to my best friend for two weeks. She just couldn't understand why I was so insulted by her pick ..."
